Nintendo has released its latest Direct, bringing a slew of announcements regarding high-profile franchises and indies. There was a lot to dig into, so here are our favorite reveals from Nintendo’s latest showcase.
Question: What was your favorite reveal from the September 2025 Nintendo Direct?
Mario Tennis Fever – Ozzie Mejia, Senior Towel Boy
This was a tough one, because there was a lot to love about this Nintendo Direct. A new Mario Tennis game might not sound like a big deal given how fresh Mario Tennis Aces still feels, but the fact that Nintendo is actually scaling up for a sports game is worth celebrating.
Let’s be honest. The Switch generation Mario sports games weren’t great. They were defined by scaling back on what was offered compared to prior generations. Mario Tennis Fever appears to be going the other way. More characters! New rackets and lots of them! And an actual story campaign? I didn’t even know you could do a story campaign based on a tennis game, but here we are. I hope this starts an upward trend for Mario sports games and it leads to a similar revival for Mario Golf, Mario Strikers, and even Mario Baseball. I’ll have my racket ready to go next year.
Pokemon Pokopia – TJ Denzer, would like to offer you a chair

The more I look at Pokemon Pokopia, the more I am baffled and mesmerized by it. A Ditto taking on the form of a person is weird in of itself, but when Ditto Kid stretches its hands and turns them into vines, or crafts, eats, and then vomits an entire chair into the place where it wants a chair to be, that’s when it really caught my attention and stuck with me for the rest of the show.
I like Dragon Quest Builders, and this seems very much like a Builders game, so I feel like the gameplay is going to be up my alley, but I’m also really excited to see all sorts of more weirdness from Ditto Kid.

While there were a lot of fun game reveals and product announcements during today’s Nintendo Direct, I was very happy to see the official reveal trailer for the second Mario movie. The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is now my most-anticipated film of 2026, even though I was already very excited to watch it. Know that the teams at Illumination and Nintendo are working with one of my favorite Mario video games just has me super stoked for what’s to come.
Talking Flower – Bill Lavoy, Shackmaps Overlord

It might seem strange that the thing I’m most excited about from the most recent Nintendo Direct is Talking Flower, but hear me out. Recently, I had our own Greg Burke buy a Bowser plush while he was on assignment. I intended to put it in my office, but my wife hijacked it at the point of delivery. It’s now in her office, which does not have a Nintendo theme whatsoever. I have a feeling she’ll also love Talking Flower, and suspect her clients will ask about it as often as they ask about Bowser. My 2026 goal is to slowly have my wife’s home office taken over by Nintendo merchandise.
Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave – Donovan Erskine, Really wants to get into Fire Emblem
You ever have that game or movie, that you know for certain you’d love if you actually sat down and gave it a shot? That’s Fire Emblem for me. The turn-based combat, fantasy setting, rich characters, I know that I’d be a Fire Emblem guy if I actually just sat down and plated one. Three Houses and Engage are currently sitting in my backlog, but there’s a good chance that Fortune’s Weave will finally be my introduction to the series.
The Virtual Boy- Steve Tyminski, 3D to the Max!

What was my favorite reveal from the most recent Nintendo Direct? This is a tough one for me because it was an hour long presentation and there was a lot shown off. You could start out with all the Mario goodness we’re getting soon for the 40th anniversary of the plumber from Brooklyn. Mario Tennis Fever looks like an interesting take on the Mario Tennis series and I really like the story mode where everyone becomes babies and they have to get their special tennis skills back. Also a game where Chain Chomp is playable. Good on Nintendo for fixing that horrible wrong from Mario Kart World. The new Yoshi game looks interesting as well. It reminds me of Yoshi’s Story with a Pokemon twist where you “capture” enemies and use their abilities. DK Bananza getting DLC was something I wasn’t expecting as the game was massive to begin with. I didn’t have a roguelike style game for DK on my bingo card but here we are. Metroid Prime 4 showing off Samus’s new kick-ass motorcycle was really cool too. As was Pokemon Z-A showing off the new Kalos starter trio Mega evolved forms. But my favorite thing from this Nintendo Direct was Virtual Boy games coming to the Nintendo Switch online service. That being said, in a way only Nintendo could do, you have to buy a Virtual Boy headset peripheral to play the games. If anyone tells you that they expected Nintendo to bring the Virtual Boy to modern consoles, they’re crazy. I remember playing the Virtual Boy in Toys R Us as a kid. It was interesting, but we skipped it. Now I have a second chance to check out all these Virtual Boy games. Honorable mention to The Mortal Kombat Legacy Collection and Fire Emblem Fortune’s Weave but my favorite was the Virtual Boy coming out of nowhere.
Those are our favorite announcements from the newest Nintendo Direct. What are yours? Sound off in the Chatty!
